Motilium (Domperidone)
General information
Motilium is prescribed for treatment of vomiting of different origin, hiccup, atonic gastrointestinal tract, necessity to accelerate peristalsis for X-ray examination, dispepsia caused by slow stomach, gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophagitis, gas, heartburn with or without passage of gastric contents into the mouth. It works blocking pereferal and central dophamin receptors. It smooths nausea and hiccup.
Directions
It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. The initial dose is 10 mg 3-4 times per day. It can be increased to 20 mg 3-4 time per day. Take the medicine 30 minutes before meal.
Precautions
Breastfeeding women can't take the medicine. Pregnant women can take it only after doctor's approval.
Contraindications
Patients with hypersensitivity, bleeding in gastrointestinal tract, mechanical intestinal obstruction, perforation of the stomach or intestines, prolactinom and children can't take the medicine.
Possible side effect
Side effects can be the following: transient spasms of the intestine, allergic reactions (skin rash, urticaria), hyperprolactinaemia (galactorrhoea, gynecomastia).
Drug interaction
Motilium can interact with Domperidone, anticholinergic medications, azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, nefazodone (antidepressant).
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help immediately. The overdose symptoms are drowsiness, disorientation, extrapyramidal disorder.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 59-77 F (15-25 C) away from light and moisture, kids and pets.
